We could not be more thrilled by the popularity of self-striping yarns! We love knitting with them, and there are so many dyers out there working spice-up the format with stripes of differing widths, multi-colour stripes, and just fun combinations. A skein of self-striping yarns makes a great gift (for more gift ideas, come back next week, winkwink), or if you’re looking for something quick to knit up, we’ll bet you knit up a self-striping yarn more quickly than a comparable yarn in a single colour (“just one more stripe” gets so much more knitting done than “just one more row.”) We have quite an array of striping yarns right now, so we thought we’d show them off and then offer some fun pattern ideas.
Now, what to do with these very fun yarns? Socks, of course, are a perfect way to show off stripes. Stockinette socks are a great canvas, but if you want something a little different, here are our favourites: Pin Striped Socks, Vanilla Latte Socks, Mystik Spiral Socks, and Skew. Jared Flood’s Noro Striped Scarf is a definite classic (and a great gift idea!), and we love the idea of stripy accessories. Some other favourites are the Metalouse and Arizona Dream shawls, the Jeremy Tie (another fantastic and quick gift), and the Linden Mittens. Just one more idea, which would also make a great gift (tis the season, right?): the Simple Seamless Cozy, for a striped hot water bottle cover! Who wouldn’t want one?
