After three amazing and wonderful years in Mirvish Village, we have moved to a new space at 832 Bloor St. West (almost on the corner of Bloor and Shaw, right between the Christie and Ossington subway stations, on the north side). Our new location is bigger (so much bigger) and brighter and we can’t wait to welcome all of you!
As many of you know, the impending construction in Mirvish Village meant that our lovely street was soon to become a mess of machines, noise, and blocked sidewalks. Although our building was not among the ones being torn down, we knew we couldn’t stay there during the years of building. We were quite worried about it, actually, both because we loved our neighbourhood and because we weren’t sure we would find another space as lovely that was also easily accessible by transit.
But, of course, we did! 832 Bloor St. West, was perfect: More space, in the downtown, close to the subway and ample parking made the decision more or less easy. Once we found it, all we had to do was figure out how to transform this former credit union space — with its low ceilings and boxy structure — into something beautiful and cozy and bright. We won’t bore you with all the details (so many paint tests…) but we are really proud of the result, and this it honours the aesthetics of our original shop while providing a large, more functional space for classes, shopping, and (of course) displaying our ever-growing collection of yarns, fabrics, embroidery threads, and notions.
Building something like this is always the work of a community, and we would like to thank the people who helped and encouraged us through the whole process. To name but a few: The EweKnit team — Caroline, Nikoleta, Angela, Yvette, and Scottie — and friends of the store — Antonella, Connie, Joanna, and many, many more. And, of course, all of you! Thank you for your kind words, encouragement, and excitement about this next step. We can’t wait for you to come see this new space!
